2012 was a cool and wet year - not as extreme as 2011 but still a challenge for many with significant rainfall spread evenly across the growing season. Our vineyard fared well - Biodynamic farming giving us excellent vine health and therefore disease resistance without chemical inputs.
This resulting Chardonnay shows its cool season in lower alcohol and a lighter, leaner palate. Aromas of green melon, nectarine and grapefruit are underlayed with some funk from wild-fermentation in barrel and a hint of vanillan spice from 10% new French oak.
The palate is lively and long - with extended maturation on yeast lees giving creaminess and complexity, without having to lose acid through malolactic (secondary) fermentation. Drink now or cellar for 10+ years.
“Vibrant green hue; a taut citrus and mineral accented wine, with a linear and tightly wound palate; while there is plenty of acidity, the fruit is lying in wait as time will see it reveal a mealy and complex example; incredibly refreshing and precise. 94 Points” —
