2013 Sangiovese

Sangiovese is the great (red) grape of Tuscany. Red berry fruits, light tannins and a sumptuous palate give this wine a juicy, savoury character; perfect with grilled meats, pizza, pasta and charcuterie.

This wine has been made for early drinking and does not require extensive cellaring.

The fruit for this wine is grown at our 'Dark Horse' Vineyard in the Murrumbateman sub-region of the Canberra District. At around 600m elevation, Dark Horse is considerably warmer than our Lark Hill Vineyard, but still has all the hallmarks of the Canberra District climate; warm summers with hot days and cold nights. The fruit ripens in the cooler autumn months and harvesting usually around mid-April, giving gradual ripening with excellent flavour and acid retention.
We use Biodynamic farming to produce wines without the influence of off-farm inputs, achieve true sustainability and to preserve the unique terroir of our vineyards.

Tasting Notes & Reviews

Lark Hill sangiovese split the room at the recent tasting of Canberra district sangiovese... The Carpenter family made the wine entirely in stainless steel tanks, foregoing aerobic maturation in oak barrels. The process captured the juicy, fruity richness and savouriness of the grape. A little aeration [leaves] the pure joy of the grape in a medium bodied, buoyant, drink-now red of great charm.
