2013 Shiraz Viognier

2013 may be remembered as one of the best years to date for Canberra District wines, and this Shiraz Viognier provides solid evidence. Ripe red fruits are balanced with spice & black pepper and a floral twist from 5% Viognier co-fermentation. The palate is juicy and rounded with ripe tannins giving structure and length. Sweet fruit brings richness to the wine and the Viognier shines through with vibrant spice characters.

The fruit for this wine is grown at our 'Dark Horse' Vineyard in the Murrumbateman sub-region of the Canberra District. At around 600m elevation, Dark Horse is considerably warmer than our Lark Hill Vineyard, but still has all the hallmarks of the Canberra District climate; warm summers with hot days and cold nights. The fruit ripens in the cooler autumn months and harvesting usually around mid-April, giving gradual ripening with excellent flavour and acid retention.
We use Biodynamic farming to produce wines without the influence of off-farm inputs, achieve true sustainability and to preserve the unique terroir of our vineyards.

Reviews & Tasting Notes

...Lark Hill [Shiraz Viognier] combines bright red-berry fruit with typical Canberra spice and a touch of pepper. A small portion of viognier in the blend adds to the richness and texture of the palate. The wine is young and unevolved at present, but we can expect it to blossom with a little bottle age.
4 Stars.

Plenty of bright red berry/cherry with a nice waft of viognier perfume and fresh sage.
The sweet fruit carries long on a very stylish palate.
