Lark Hill Biodynamic Pinot Noir 2013 $40
Our search for a cool vineyard site back in 1978 took us up to the top of the Lake George escarpment. Here, at 860m, the Pinot Noir ripens slowly in the autumn sun, building aromas and flavours of dark cherry, game and woodland.
Our Pinot Noir clone is MV6, traceable to the Busby introductions of 1833.
We ferment traditionally using natural yeasts, which abound in our Biodynamic vineyard, and age the wine in small French oak barriques to produce a savoury style with finesse and structure.
2013 was a warm vintage, producing intense, concentrated wines with generous fruit characters. This Pinot Noir shows its vintage with ripe strawberry/cherry notes, a sumptuous palate and fine grained tannins. Still young, this wine will reward cellaring for many years to come. Aging brings out savoury notes such as deli-meats, smokey characters and an edge of 'forest floor' or mushroom behind the ripe fruit characters.
